How is breast augmentation surgery performed?

What happens after breast enlargement surgery?

After breast enlargement surgery, you will probably feel tired and sore, but you should be up and around in 24 to 48 hours. Within several days of the breast augmentation procedure, you may be given a surgical bra to wear as directed by the doctor. Breast implant deflation is another possible complication of breast enlargement surgery. Saline-filled breast implants deflate when the solution leaks through an unsealed or damaged valve or through a rupture in the breast implant itself. Sometimes breast implants deflate or break in the first months after breast augmentation surgery; other times the breast implants deflate only after several years. Infection can occur days or even weeks after breast augmentation surgery, and can be harder to treat than other infections. If antibiotics do not work on the infection, the breast implant may have to be removed. In addition, breast implants can make it difficult to take and read mammograms. This can result in late detection of breast cancer. It is important to remember that additional breast surgery may be needed to remove or replace breast implants if certain complications arise.
